Sixteen years of full-stack engineering, mostly greenfield: hired for one thing, handed the problems nobody had started yet. I build the shared components, delivery standards, and AI tooling that make other engineers faster. At Dfinitiv: the seed project that became Studio and its TypeScript / Node.js service layer, a cross-browser extension, then the Android build of United's MileagePlus X. Before that I led the frontend of Builder Tools at Ada, worked on Insights and PatternFly at Red Hat, and built applications on cloud platforms at Booz Allen. I write production code every day.

Experience

Senior Software Engineer, Founding Developer

– Present

Dfinitiv · Remote

  • Turned the seed project I was hired onto into Studio, the analytics and content platform spanning the MileagePlus X suite: a TypeScript / Node.js service layer on AWS Lambda with event-driven pipelines, multi-environment configuration, and role-based access control through AWS Cognito groups. Owned the data model and the United integration boundaries.
  • Founding Android developer for United MileagePlus X, United's loyalty app: started its Android side in React Native / Expo, and now ship it to Google Play through United's release process and own its production architecture.
  • Co-built a Postgres-backed code index that lets Claude Code and Codex look code up instead of rereading files. It parses with tree-sitter, is served over MCP and a VS Code extension, and was built largely with agents and verified by benchmarks.
  • Set delivery standards: pre-commit hooks, linting, test and CI/CD gates on every pull request, plus required human review to satisfy the SOC 2 change-management control. AI PR review in every repo's CI checks each pull request before a human approves it. Android security scanning runs as a release-build gate, moved off PRs to keep review fast.
  • Shipped a Manifest V3 cross-browser extension with fault-tolerant third-party API integration; now building its backend.

Senior Software Engineer, Capability Team Lead

–

Ada · Remote

  • Co-owned Ada's component library and design system, built from scratch and adopted across engineering as the backbone every feature codes against; ran the team's design and code review and mentored engineers onto it.
  • Led the frontend of Builder Tools while writing production code as an IC: the authoring surface where enterprise brands like AirAsia, Square, Shopify, and Pinterest built and configured their own AI customer-service agents. Production, multi-tenant, one isolated tenant per customer.

Senior Software Engineer

–

Red Hat · Remote

  • Built shared components (date pickers, data-driven forms) for PatternFly, the open-source design system that unified dozens of Red Hat products, including acquired ones like ManageIQ and Ansible, into one suite. Sought out product teams building their own versions and supported several through migration.
  • Developed React / Redux frontends for ManageIQ (continued from Booz Allen) and Red Hat Insights.

Lead Software Engineer

–

Booz Allen Hamilton · Herndon, VA

  • Led frontend and full-stack work on applications for cloud and container management platforms (ManageIQ, CodeLift) and the GSA Common Components Portal; set direction on Angular and Rails codebases under federal audit.
  • Led the frontend for a federal agency's Ebola outbreak dashboard (2014), built for operators deciding on live data.

Independent projects

ChargeLog · chargelog.org · github.com/AllenBW/chargelog-recorder · Native Android app in Kotlin with a Wear OS companion that tracks every charging session; I run its builds and releases end to end. Its recording engine is open source (GPL-3.0-only): an always-on foreground service writing NDJSON session logs, tested against real-device fixtures.

FileFloat · filefloat.app · Signed, notarized, and shipped cross-platform desktop app in Tauri / Rust / TypeScript, built solo.

Good Tools · goodtools.dev · Live library of self-contained maker tools that run in the browser: a moss pole configurator built on my parametric Python part scripts, plus laser-cut planter and logo puzzle generators. Each tool is a single file anyone can download and keep, no account or install.
